Rehabilitation has commenced on the deplorable portions of the Ganaja road in Lokoja metropolis.
This is part of efforts by the State Government through its road maintenance agency, KOGROMA to make the road motorable after it was cut off by flooding that ravaged the area.
Speaking with newsmen on the ongoing rehabilitation, Kogi State Commissioner for Works and Housing, Abubakar Ohere said the State Government decided to repair the road though it is the responsibility of the Federal Government.
He noted that the repairs is in fulfilment of the promise by Governor Yahaya Bello to improve the condition of the road as soon as the rainy season was over.
The Commissioner who attributed the impressive pace of work to the support by Ganaja community, disclosed that several trucks got stucked on the road and had been evacuated to allow free flow of movement.
Ohere however appealed to the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola to ensure that total reconstruction is carried out for lasting solution to the condition of the road.
A leader in Ganaja Community, Alhaji Tijjani who said the Community contributed its quota by participating in the repairs lamented that the blockage of the road by flooding and its consequent deterioration hampered socio- economic activities in the area.
