Kogi Govt Adopts Measures To Check Influx Of Destitutes

Kogi State Government has restated its determination to rid the State capital of destitutes.

The State Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajia Fatima Buba stated this while speaking with Newsmen in Lokoja.

Hajia Buba said some of the destitutes have been relocated to their states of origin and others taken to the rehabilitation center in the State capital for adequate care.

According to her, measures will be put in place to stop their return, which she stressed Constitutes a security risk to the people in the State.

She said the Ministry is also engaged in free legal services to women to reduce the rate of gender based violence across the state.

The Commissioner disclosed that orphanages in the State are being catered for with financial aid of Five hundred thousand naira on a quarterly basis as well as monitor the upkeep of children in the various orphanage home across the State.

She commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his friendly disposition to women in the State by empowering over five hundred women through appointment into elective positions both at the State and local government levels describing him as a gender friendly and sensitive Governor.
