KOGI : APC In Ijumu LG Conducts Parallel Ward Congress

As the All Progressives Congress conducted its Ward Congresses nationwide, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State yesterday conducted a parallel Ward Congress.

According to our Correspondent who monitored the exercise in the Local Government, some party Stakeholders comprising the State Commissioner of Environment, Chief Victor Omofaiye, member representing the Constituency, Kilani Olumo, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Sunday Faleke, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women and Children Development, Omotayo Adeleye Ishaya, APC Caretaker Chairman, Chief Samuel Abejide among others gathered at Iyara the Headquarters of the local government to elect new Ward officials through affirmation as directed by the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

Speaking to Newsmen shortly after the exercise, the Commissioner for Environment, Victor Omofaiye said the Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Taofiq Isa hijacked the forms for the Congress and failed to show up at the agreed venue for the Congress.

Chief Omofaiye described the conduct of the Chairman as an act of disloyalty and gross disrespect to the directive of the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello that all existing caretaker Executives at the Ward level to be returned as new Executives of the Party.

The member representing Ijumu Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Kilani Olumo on his part described the incident as unfortunate and an act of insubordination to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

Shortly after the Ward Congress of the Stakeholders, another faction of the party led by the Chairman of the Local Government, Alhaji Taufiq Isah gathered at the Party Secretariat in Iyara to conduct their affirmative election.

Speaking to journalists after the exercise, the Executive Chairman denied the knowledge of the Congress conducted earlier stressing that the materials for the exercise was used at the Congress conducted at the party Secretariat alongside relevant stakeholders.

According to him, the Party remains one family in the Local government without any faction as being envisaged.

In Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, the exercise was peaceful at the various ward levels.

Speaking to Newsmen, the State Commissioner for Education and a member of the Committee for the Congress, Wemi Jones described it as peaceful, orderly and done as directed by the Executive Governor as all the Caretaker Members were returned through affirmation

Meanwhile reports from the other nineteen local government areas of Kogi State indicated a peaceful affirmation of the Caretaker Committee members..
