Kano Govt Takes Steps To Tackle Open Defecation

The Kano State government says plans are underway to construct 58 toilets as part of efforts to tackle open defucation.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso stated this in Kano while monitoring the Keep Kano Clean week 2021.

Dr Kabiru Getso said a survey conducted by Kano state ministry of Environment identified 58 points where open defecation is rampant which prompted the Ministry to take the decision.

He said the Ministry also sought the support of Kano state Urban Planning and development Authority KNUPDA, Kano state Road Mentainnance Agency KARMA, Tipper Drivers Association, Individuals and other relevant stakeholders in ensuring the success of the campaign.

“We have been to KNUPDA and the MD assured us their support and approved our request for clearance in constructing toilets, we have requested support from KARMA and they have given us two tractors, so there is certainly need for individuals Community associations, companies and other relevant stakeholders to put hands together to achieve the set objectives”.

The commissioner expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment shown by members of the public in cleaning their domains.

Dr Kabiru Getso urged members of the public to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in water ways saying success would only be achieved when government, companies, groups and members of the public put hands together in addressing Environmental challenges.
