IPOB : Court Remands Kanu, Fixes Trial For Nx Month

The Federal Government has intercepted and brought back into the country, the self acclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

The Attorney General of the Federal and Minister of Justice, AGF Abubakar Malami who made this known at a joint media briefing with the State Security Service and the Police in Abuja, explained that, this was achieved through collaborative efforts of the Nigerian intelligence and security services.

According to the AGF, Kanu was rearrested on Sunday, June Twenty Seven, twenty twenty one after jumping bail in September 2017.

“He has, upon jumping bail, been accused of engaging in subversive activities that include inciting violence through television, radio and online broadcasts against Nigeria.

“Self-aclaimed leader of the proscribed secessionist Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been intercepted and brought back to Nigeria in order to continue facing trial after disappearing while on bail on an 11 count charge .”

Nnamdi Kanu was however produced at the Federal High Court, Abuja, earlier today, before Justice Binta Nyako for continuation of his trial.

Justice Nyako also granted the application for the accelerated hearing of the trial to July 26, as against the earlier adjourned date of October 20.

In the meantime, the Federal High Court has granted an order to the Federal Government to detain Nnamdi Kanu at the DSS Facility, ahead of the continuation of his trial.

Nnamdi Kanu was arrested by the Federal government, on 14th October, 2015 on an 11 count charge bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory content, illegal possession of firearms and improper importation of goods, amongst others.
