INEC To Adopt Electronic Balloting Next Year

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it will pioneer the usage of electronic balloting in the November 2021 Anambra State Governorship election.

The INEC Chairman, Professor. Mahmood Yakubu stated this in Abuja at a joint national briefing of the Presidential Task Force, PTF on COVID-19.

Professor Yakubu said smart card readers would be used for voters accreditation in next week’s Governorship election in Edo State.

The INEC Chairman explained that the Commission had been using technology to deepen democracy, for the accreditation of observers, media and even the submission of candidates by the parties in the forth coming Edo and Ondo elections.

He stressed that the commission was committed to introducing at least electronic balloting using machines to ballot and experiment it during the Anambra Governorship election in November 2021

Professor Yakubu however warned against violence as the commission was ready to conduct free,fair, safe and credible elections in Edo and Ondo States.
