The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it will meet with traditional and religious leaders in Plateau State towards a free, fair and credible Senatorial bye-election.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Husseini Halilu Pai made this known at a stakeholders meeting in Jos.
He said lNEC was ready to conduct the Plateau South Senatorial Bye- election in 6 Local Governments of Shendam, Qua’anpan, Wase, Lantang North, Lantang South and Mikang.
According to him, there are 68 Registration Centres, 712 polling units and 671,209 registered voters.
He advised the 19 political parties that would participate to educate their supporters on the need to conduct themselves well for a violence free exercise.
The Commissioner also said that the interactive session was to sensitize major stakeholders on the need to conduct a peaceful election.
He stressed the need to adhere strictly to COVID -19 guidelines during the election.
The Bye election which will hold on the 31st of October followed the death of Senator Ignatius Longjan who before his death was representing Plateau South at the National Assembly .
