The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, HYPPADEC, has adopted measures to improve the living condition of host communities in the country.
Chairman of the Governing Council, Joseph Ityav stated this during the inspection of facilities at the Nigerian Electricity supply corporation ,NESCO, in Kurra Falls,Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Ityav said the Commission’s desire was to raise the living standard of host communities especially women and youths in all areas where hydro dams are located.
On his part the Managing Director of the Commission, Alh. Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa said the Commission would be working with the communities to provide physical development.
Also speaking, the village head of Kurra where the Dam is sited, Mark Danboyi expressed worry over the untold hardship being experienced by the community as their farms and other sources of livelihoods were usually washed away by the dam during the raining season.
He called on HYPPADEC and government to proffer lasting solutions to the persistent flood in the area.
The governing council of the Commission were also at the government house on a courtesy visit to the governor of Plateau state Simon Bako Lalong.
Gov Lalong expressed optimism that with their coming the sufferings of the communities located where hydropower is generated across the country would be addressed.
The team also visited the palace of the Gbong Gwom Jos, Jacob Gyang Buba where he urged them to work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in them by reviving and sustaining neglected dams in the country.
