The House of Representatives has reiterated its commitment to providing the needed legislation to boost performance of the Nation’s Maritime Sector.
The Chairman House Committee on Navy Yusuf Gadhi stated this at a public hearing on two Bills organised by the committee in Abuja.
Declaring the event open the Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila represented by the Chairman of the Committee urged stakeholders to make meaningful contributions to the proposed legislation ,and emphasized that the Ninth House of Assembly, would continue to provide the needed support to the sector.
In his submission on one of the bills entitled “A Bill For An Act To Establish The Hydrographic Agency” the Surveyor General of the Federation, Samuel Taiwo described the bill as a welcome development.
On the second Bill which proposes a Maritime Trust Fund for the Navy, the stakeholders ware optimistic that the legislation would reduce the budgetary allocation burden on Government and address the issues of training and capacity building in the sector.
