The House of Representatives Committees on Petroleum Upstream, Petroleum Downstream and Gas Resources has adjourned sitting following the failure of the Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr Timipre Sylva, to appear before it.
Moving a motion to that effect the Chairman House committee on petroleum upstream, Musa Sarkin-Adda, also frowned at the failure of the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to appear before the committee for their 2021 budget defense.
The lawmakers who arrived early at the venue of the scheduled meeting spent over two hours awaiting the arrival of the Minister and his entourage to no avail.
The Members of the Joint Committees who were visibly angry urged the Chairman to adjourn the sitting adding that the legislative arm of government cannot be subjected to any form of ridicule by the Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government.
The Chairman who appealed to the lawmakers however explained that the Minister had earlier called to inform him that he had been summoned to the presidency by President Muhammadu Buhari.
