The Federal government has been urged to improve the budgetary allocation of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the creation of additional polling units across the country.
The Director Communication and Programme of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Miss Ifenla Oligbinde gave the advice while featuring on “Politics Today” a Kapital FM Current Affairs Programme in Abuja.
While discussing on the topic ” INEC Preparations for the conversion of about Fifty seven thousand voting points into polling units across the country a head of the 2023 elections, Miss Oligbinde explained that with the creation of additional polling units INEC’s budget should be reviewed for optimal performance.
The ADC Director Communication and programme, appealed to INEC, to manage available resources for the growth of the nation’s democracy.
She also called on the electoral umpire to embark on aggressive voters education to enlighten the electorates on the importance of converting voting points to polling units which according to her would eliminate electoral fraud and strengthen the nation’s democracy
Miss Oligbinde also appealed to the National Orientation Agency, NOA to embark on enlightenment campaign to increase awareness on the electoral process.
Also contributing on the programme, an APC stalwart in the FCT, Alhaji Sadiq Abubakar explained that the creation of additional polling units would enable more Nigerians to vote and be voted for.
The APC stalwart urged INEC and stakeholders to partner political parties for the conduct of free, fair and credible elections in the future.
Alhaji Abubakar therefore stressed the need for politicians and political office holders to accord priority to people oriented programmes as part of the dividends of democracy.
