Groups Call For More Awareness, Support for Sickle Cell Patients

A group of non governmental organizations Society of Petroleum Engineers and Value Chain Sickle Cell Foundation have called for more awareness campaign and support for people with sickle cell aneamia.

They made the call in Abuja during a sensitization Walk tagged Walk for Sickle Cell.

The Chairman of the Abuja section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Doctor Ikechukwu Okafor explained that the walk was to empathize, create awareness and support sickle Cell warriors.

He said due to the effect of the disease, the organization was committed to supporting those with the disease and other health challenges.

The Coordinator of Value Chain Sickle Cell Foundation Doctor Ibrahim Suleiman reminded parents and caregivers of their roles in ensuring the survival of victims

Doctor Suleiman emphasized the need for intending couples to check their genotype before marriage to reduce the cases of Sickle Cell.

On his part, the founder of the Value Chain Sickle Cell Foundation, Mr. Musa Usman noted that most of those with the disease, lack adequate healthcare.

He called for more awareness on the management of the disease and support from organizations and well meaning individuals.
