Plateau State Governor and Chairman, Northern Governors Forum, Simon Lalong says estimate of destruction of public and private property during the #EndSARS protests in the State is about 75 billion naira.
Lalong stated this during an interactive with Youth groups in the State held at the New Government House, Jos.
The Governor described the level of destruction during the hijacked #ENDSARS protest as unbelievable and unacceptable.
He lamented that the destruction is a setback as the State lacks the resources to replace the structures vandalised and the items damaged or stolen.
He explained that the State was yet to recover from the devastating economic consequences of COVID-19 which greatly affected its capacity to provide the necessary services.
Lalong who said the destruction had nothing to do with the initial #ENDSARS protests, but an act of criminality and unpatriotic behavior added that so far more than thirty two public and private property were affected.
He expressed sadness over the violence that led to the destruction of lives and property in Jos and Bukuru metropolis.
He explained that the Government was left with no option than to take the painful decision of imposing a curfew in Jos South and Jos North Local Government Areas to prevent further loss of lives and property.
Responding,Youths groups such as the #EndSARS, Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN )Plateau State Chapter, the National Council of Muslim Youths Organisation (NCMYO)and several others unanimously called on the Government to take the necessary steps in tackling the challenges faced by youths in the State.
They however advocated continuous dialogue with government for a better future.
