Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, has reaffirmed his belief in the corporate existence of Nigeria.
Yahaya Bello gave the affirmation when he paid a courtesy visit to the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, in Umuahia.
He explained that although there were agitations in some parts of the country, dialogue was key to addressing such issues.
The Governor expressed that certain negative impressions about the region were false because Igbo people were living peacefully in the state and contributing their quota to the economic, political and social development of the state
Bello added that he has a cordial relationship with Dr Ikpeazu, and other Governors despite being in a different party, religion and region.
In his response, the Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu saluted the visiting Governor’s desire to galvanize the nation, describing him as a leader with a courageous a standpoint.
Dr Ikpeazu who shared Bello’s view of an indivisible Nigeria, emphasized that, it was God’s intention to bring Nigerians together as a nation to lead Africa which would be impossible without a united front.
The Governor frowned at the ugly trend of ethnic profiling, stating that crimes exist independent of tribal affiliations, and the rascality of a few should not be accepted on a whole, adding that the Igbo nation was firmly committed to one Nigeria, as everywhere in Nigeria is home to them.
He noted that misunderstandings in some segments cannot be avoided but with patience and tolerance, mutual understanding would be enhanced across all divides.
“The unity of this country lies in the stoic responsibility of those who have benefited from it in time past and must ensure its stability for the generations coming after, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu added.”
