Women in the Country have been charged to give more attention to the education of the girl child.
Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello made the call at the annual Conference of the Women Wing of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, WASUSS, in Lokoja.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Doctor Folashade Ayoade, Governor Bello said the importance of giving quality and accessible education to the girl child cannot be overemphasised due to their importance to nation building.
Doctor Ayoade described the Governor as gender friendly and sensitive and appealed to all women to support his presidential ambition.
In his speech, the National President, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, Comrade Samuel Omaji said the Women wing of the Union was created to address issues of women vulnerability due to the Covid Nineteen pandemic.
Comrade Omaji also called for enforcement of the right of women as well as the protection of the girl child.
Kogi State Chairman of ASUSS, Comrade Ranti Ojo said the Conference was meant to examine the roles of women in Covid nineteen pandemic era and sensitize them about their mental and health safety to contribute meaningfully to nation building as Teachers in the classroom and mothers at home.
In her address, the National Chairperson, Women in ASUSS, Comrade Ranti Oluwemimo said the theme of the Conference; Effective Classroom Teaching in Covid Nineteen Pandemic Period is apt to the development of women in the Union for optimal academic performance.
In her paper presentation titled; Stress and Health Management, the Executive Director Challenged Parenthood Initiative, Eunice Agbogun spoke on ten strategies of managing stress to include; the need to spend quality time with family and pay attention to their health.
In her remark, the chairperson of the occassion, Mrs Cecilia Cook urged women to develop themselves in order to attain higher positions in life.
Highlight of the occassion was presentation of awards to those who served meritoriously in the Union and service to humanity.
