The Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello says, there is no better time for the youths to redefine the Nigerian dream than now.
He stated this in Lokoja at a novelty match put together by the State Government featuring, Jay-Jay Okocha, Peter Rufai, Finidi George, Kanu Nwankwo, Taribo West, and other Ex internationals in the star-studded game.
Bello who captained the Kogi State Executive Council Team described the novelty match as a reminder of the days when unity was the common frame of reference in our nation, noting that it was organised to revive that once cherished feeling of nationalism amongst Nigerians.
The Governor bemoaned the unfortunate postures of some elderly Nigerians whose past time was to echo the tunes of disintegration and regional sentiments, assuring that, the youths would disconnect from the unpatriotic antics of the merchants of hate and division.
He reiterated the resolve of the youths to take their destinies into their hands, halt the selfish agenda of a few and redirect the narrative to a purposeful push towards national healing, peaceful coexistence and the total control of governance.
The Governor maintained that the football legends were a unifying factor of our nationhood, stating that, these legends invoked a deep spirit of patriotism amongst Nigerians whenever they adored the national colour in their playing days.
According to him, their passion and dedication aside bringing glory to the nation went a long way to integrate the various sections of the country who despite their ethnic differences were united together for the greatness of the country.
The Governor scored a goal for the Executive Team during the match with the Ex Super Eagles squad of 1994 and1996.
