The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC has called on Proprietors of Private Schools to stop using rickety buses and engage the services of professional drivers for effective traffic control.
FCT Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Sunday Ochi made the call in Abuja during a one day capacity building for Drivers of Private Schools in Lugbe and its Environs.
Mr Sunday Ochi Who described Drivers as very important Staff of any school appealed to School Proprietors to always organize regular training to enhance their performance.
The FCT Sector Commander maintained that the FRSC would continue to engage owners of private schools, transport union members and other stakeholders on ways to make Nigerian Roads Safer for all road users.
In a remark, Lugbe Unit Commander and organizer of the workshop, Assistant Corps Commandant Adewale Ameen said the idea for the training came when a driver abandoned a faulty School bus and students of a private school at the middle of a major road causing a gridlock and security threats to the students.
Mr Adewale Ameen said the capacity building for School drivers was conceived after a town meeting with owners of private schools to enhance the driving skills of their drivers.
He assured Nigerians that FRSC would continue to initiate programs towards achieving the 2021 FRSC goals of reducing road accidents.
Also Speaking, The Lugbe Coordinator of Special Marshals Mr Felix Okeke commended the organiser of the event and stressed the need for FRSC to extend the training to commercial drivers .
In her goodwill message, a representative of Proprietors of Private Schools Mrs Ruth Sam- Shie expressed the believe that the training would equip their drivers with modern driving techniques and ways to ensure the Safety of School children on the road.
A Participant Mr Samuel Opaluwa said the workshop would go a long way in changing his attitude towards respecting the rights of other road users.
The One Day Workshop was attended by Over One Hundred and Twenty Drivers of Private Schools with the theme:Actualizing Goals 1 @ 3 Of FRSC 2021 Cooperate Strategic Goals.
