The Federal Road Safety Commission,FRSC says it will continue to ensure the enforcement of strict compliance to safety and traffic rules especially for articulated vehicles and cargoes to reduce the rate of road accidents in the country.
The Corps Marshall, FRSC, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi stated this in Abuja while interacting with newsmen at the commencement of Operation Scorpion II focusing on articulated vehicles.
Doctor Oyeyemi who decried the increase in the number of accidents involving trailers conveying containers explained that during Operation Scorpion 1, three thousand five hundred and sixty articulated vehicles were impounded and drivers prosecuted while Operation Scorpion II which commenced this week had impounded one hundred and twenty nine vehicles.
The FRSC Corps Marshal said it was working with the Nigeria Ports Authority, and some State Governments in the South West to ensure that proper safety guidelines were adhered to and violators apprehended and prosecuted.
Doctor Oyeyemi while emphasizing the need for retraining of drivers of cargoes and articulated vehicles maintained that henceforth owners of the heavy duty vehicles would also be made to pay fine for offenses committed by their drivers.
