The Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC says it arrested 5,630 offenders for committing 6,880 offences across the country during the Easter Special Operation.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal, Bisi Kazeem who stated this in Abuja said
over 3,000 vehicles were impounded, 87 offenders arraigned in mobile courts, 79 convicted with option of fines while 1 driver was sentenced to prison during the operation.
Mr Kazeem explained that a total of 103 road traffic crashes were recorded as against a total of 200 in the same period in 2019 representing 14% decrease.
He said the decrease recorded in Crashes was largely attributed to establishment of Station Offices in almost all the 774 Local Govenments in Nigeria; intensified public enlightenment campaigns held nationwide in collaboration with key stakeholders in the transportation sector and effective patrol.
Mr Kazeem further said that in the same period in 2019, the Commission arrested a total of 6961 offenders in 2019 as against 5630 in 2021 representing 19.12% decrease, and a total of 7708 offences as against 6880 in 2021 representing 10.74% decrease.
