The Director General, National Metallurgical Development Centre, Professor Linus Asuquo says the nation’s steel industry, when fully developed, will boost job growth in the country.
Professor Asuquo stated this in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Abuja.
He explained that flat Steel production would aid the growth of allied industries adding that such was vital for the development of the sector.
“For the nation to industrialise, we need to produce flat steel , which is the ultimate goal of the sector. With flat steel , we can produce many things like engine blocks, vehicle bodies among others.”
Professor Asuquo said that the steel company was capable of generating jobs when operating at a full capacity.
“The steel sector, when operational can be used to diversify the economy, create jobs and also to generate revenue for the government.
Speaking on the metallurgical industry bill before the National Assembly, Professor Asuquo noted that the bill when enacted would assist in establishing programmes that would stimulate the private sector and make the local industry more competitive in the international market.
“Government is willing to do everything to support the industry. That is why we have proposed a metallurgical industrial bill, which is at the National Assembly for approval.
