FG Seeks More Participation Of Women In Water Mgt For Sustainable Devt

The Federal Ministry of Water Resources has embarked on Sensitization workshop on effective integration of women and girls in decision making process and management of water for sustainable development.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry,Mrs Didi Walson-Jack made this known at the commencement of the workshop in Abuja.

The càpacity building with the theme Sensitization Workshop on Gender Based Perspective on Integrated Water Resources was to enlighten Gender Desk officers from the ministry and its agencies on practical approaches and strategies for proper implementation of Gender based issues.

The Permanent Secretary Mrs Didi Walson-Jack noted with concern that most positions and strategic policy decision making process on water are dominated by men.

She explained that the workshop would strengthen and raise awareness on the participation and inclusion of women in key decision making on issues of water, sanitation and hygiene.

In a remark, the founder of the Albino foundation and Convener Disability Inclusion, Mr Jake Ekpelle while commending the Permanent Secretary for factoring persons with Disability in the programmes of the ministry, pointed out that the workshop would ensure the inclusion of the marginalised especially those with Disability in water and sanitation projects.

Also, the Executive Director of a non governmental organisation, Dave Omokaro Foundation, Dr Emem Omokaro and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Women Trust Fund, Mrs Mufuliat Fijabi stressed the need for inclusiveness of gender and disability perspective on issues of water.

On his part, the Director Special Duties in the ministry Mr Peter Nwakpa urged participants to make good use of the knowledge from the workshop and ensure effective implementation in their various states and offices.
