The FCT Administration has threatened to deal with some unscrupulous elements, in connivance with some officials who were allegedly reported to be issuing letters of allocation illegally.

Acting Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Mr Abdulhamid Sulaiman stated this while briefing journalists in Abuja.

The Co-ordinator who explained that only the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has the power to allocate land,be it open spaces, green areas or recreational parks, warned the public not to fall victim of such criminal activities .

Suleiman who further disclosed that there was an existing embargo on land allocation for green areas, recreational parks and open spaces in the FCT, said any allocation or transaction with respect to these land purposes while the embargo subsists would be considered null and void.

According to him, any transaction outside the Minister’s approval is deemed illegal and illegitimate.

“And anybody caught dealing on these illegal allocations will not only be dealt with in the Civil Service way, but will also be prosecuted.” He said

The Coordinator also called on residents to strictly adhere to development control guidelines in line with the Abuja Master Plan.

“Therefore, those willing to develop their legally allocated land should approach the Development Control department for guidance and proper approval before they can commence development”,

He also advised residents to desist from constructing structures along flood plains to avert devastating effects of flood in the territory.
