The FCT Transportation Secretariat says efforts are ongoing to address the challenges of nonfunctional traffic lights.

The Acting Secretary, FCT Transport Secretariat, Mr Usman Musa Yahaya while speaking with Journalists in Abuja, said adequate provision was made in the recently passed 2021 FCT Appropriation bill to pave way for commencement of procurement processes.

According to him, this will go a long way to improve traffic light installations, maintain existing ones and possibly cover new areas.

Mr Yahaya said 172 Traffic Light Installations at 62 various intersection locations across different Districts are in good condition and functioning.

” Regrettably, 110 are non-functional.” Yahaya said.

He noted that twenty- five out of the 110 are currently undergoing rehabilitation while some are to be procured for fresh signalization .

Mr Yahaya further identified other challenges the secretariat was facing to include improper management of the Traffic Light Installations, knocking down of the installations by motorists and vandalism of the installations by some criminal elements.
