The FCT Administration wants shop owners to comply with COVID-19 guidelines or have their business premises shut down to prevent further spread of corona virus.
Head, Media and Public Enlightenment of the FCT COVID-19 Task Force , Comrade Ikharo Attah stated this while monitoring level of compliance by shopping malls and other businesses across the Territory.
Comrade Attah warned that the FCTA would not hesitate to also shut the Maitama farmers’ market, for failure to comply with the covid-19 protocols.
His words:”From what we observed, there is high compliance by costumers… A situation in which owners of shops and their workers believed that the guidelines and health protocols are for costumers and visitors is highly unacceptable. The health protocols are for all to observe.” Attah explained.
Comrade Attah emphasized the need for all to wear face mask in public places .
According to him: “COVID-19 health protocols which are very simple include wearing of facemasks, regular handwashing and maintaining physical distancing”.
Comrade Attah who further explained that there was high level of disregard at the Maitama Farmers’ market,said most people in the market were not wearing facemask.
While three persons were arrested at the market, the Taskforce visited other places like the Jabi Lake Mall, Novera Shoprite Mall along the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport road and some business premises at Wuse and Maitama Districts.
