The FCT Department of Outdoor Advertising and Signages , DOAS, has embarked on the removal of illegal signage infrastructures in the territory with a view to upgrading and sanitizing the city of indiscriminate postings.
The Director of DOAS,Dr. Babagana Adam made this known in an interview with kapital fm in Abuja.
He explained that one of the core mandates of the Department was to standardize, Regulate, Control adverts and signages, with a view to beautifying and protecting the Environment.
According to him, 2,747 of unbefitting signages have been evacuated from different parts of the city.
Dr Adam who lamented that some residents and business promoters have refused to comply with international standard required in outdoor advertising, said the agency has intensified efforts to ensure that people complied.
Dr Adam warned organizations that litter the streets with indiscriminate advert materials under the guise of cooperate social responsibility, to desist from such acts.
The Director also noted that the department had installed 36 signages in the FCT as well as redesigned city streets and major high way signages in line with best global practices.
He also added that enumeration of businesses across the six area councils for effective planning of infrastructure was ongoing .
His words:” the Department will no longer allow the proliferation of kiosks with whatever name, as well as uninformed signages, as it is a clear violation of global standards”. He said.
