The Federal Capital Territory Administration has rewarded year 2020 front line workers and other critical stakeholders that performed optimally in the discharge of their duties during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic, with a pledge to institutionalize an annual staff recognition for diligent staff.
FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu gave this assurance during the maiden edition of the FCTA staff award night for year 2020, held at the International Conference Center, Abuja.
Dr Aliyu noted that the Administration was keen on ensuring that contribution of staff was recognised through an annual reward system with a view to boosting staff morale and promote productivity in the service.
The Minister added that the award ceremony would also motivate and improve staff loyalty .
According to the Minister, the society is dynamic; hence the need to do new things in new ways in search for genuine solutions to the myriads of contemporary problems.
Earlier, the FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusade Adesola said the Administration would implement reforms designed to move the FCT Civil Service to greater heights.
According to him, “The Service Rule in section 150 106 provides that any officer who in the course of his official duties, carries out a unique act or, in perilous circumstances, secures the safety of human life or property may also be considered for an award as the occasion warrants”.
Adesola stressed that as part of efforts to enable staff progress in their career progression, the Administration had since September 2020 conducted promotion exercise for the 2019 and 2020 fiscal year resulting to the promotion of about 12,235 staff on grade level 4–16.
He added that the Administration had also issued the 2021 promotion exercise circular to ensure that as far as possible staff no longer lose their seniority from missed promotion exercise.
The category of awards during the ceremony include award for special recognition for auxiliary staff, medal for exceptional public service for former and current staff, medal of star of bravery or courage for paramilitary personnel and many more.
