The Federal Capital Territory Administration wants National Assembly committees mandated to carryout oversight functions on FCTA to come up with legislations or push for pending bills that will foster rapid development across the area Councils .
Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, made the call when she appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters in Abuja.
Dr Aliyu explained that existing laws governing the territory were obsolete and needed to be reviewed .
According to the Minister, the review would inject workable, innovative ideas that would change the slow pace of work in the last four decades across the Area Councils and Satellite Town’s.
She explained that out of 8,000sq kilometers of the Territory, only 250sq kilometers have been fully developed for almost four decades of developing the city.
Dr Aliyu also hinted that the FCT Administration was working on the interim report and recommendations to find lasting solution to the plight of LEA teachers that recently embarked on industrial strike over minimum wage in the FCT.
Earlier in his remarks, Chairman House of Representatives Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, Ahmed Yusuf Tijjani, assured the minister that the committee would continue to push necessary bills that would fast- track rapid development in the nation’s Capital.
