FCTA Pulls Down 349 illegal Structures In Lugbe

The FCT Ministerial Committee on City Sanitation has carried out a massive clean up exercise, pulling down over 349 illegal structures in Lugbe, along the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The demolition which lasted seven hours started at Lugbe-Across, and proceeded to Lugbe Berger, Car wash and Lugbe zone 5 .

The Head of the City Sanitation Committee, Comrade Ikharo Attah, accompanied by security personnel and Fire Service officials ,said the operation was part of its regular exercise aimed at ensuring sanity along the Airport road corridor, being the gateway into the heart of the City.

Comrade Attah explained that the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello had recently expressed displeasure over the high level of infringement when he visited the area with the commissioner of Police, Security Heads, Chief of Garki, Usman Nga-Kupi and some Army officers in the territory.

According to Comrade Attah, most of the areas that the residents ought to park their cars along the fence line were all converted into shops.

His Words: “The people have turned the fence line to a motor park, where car owners park and pay N1,000 on a daily basis… In line with town planning rules and to keep the city clean and safe, we are not going to be detered, this comprehensive clean up showd that the FCT Administration is committed to keeping the city clean.”

Comrade Attah while commending Abuja Environmental Protection Board in the task of evacuating the heavy waste in the area, however lamented that despite dump sites locations at the back of the Villages, some persons still dump waste in unauthorized places, thereby defacing the City.
