The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a one-week ultimatum to property owners and traders around the Nyanya interchange to vacate the site, to pave way for smooth running of construction work in the area.
The ultimatum was issued following the return of worrisome traffic gridlock, caused by acts of contraventions .
Chairman, FCT Traffic Management Team, Comrade Ikharo Attah, said the vacation order, followed an on the spot assessment observed to be affecting the traffic in the area.
Comrade Ikharo Attah stressed that a stern order has been given to owners of the affected structures which are mainly old structures, especially those that have received compensation for their property.
According to him, the FCT traffic management team held an on the spot meeting with the Nyanya component made up of the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Area Commander of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) and the DPO in the area.
He added that the DPO of Nyanya and Karu Units, Commander of the FRSC, DRTS Area Commander, Assistant Director, Enforcement of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Kaka Bello were on ground and the Directional Traffic Officers (DTOs).
His words:”They are still hanging around the area, which is in contravention…We will be coming strongly to remove them, because the Federal government through the Ministry of Works have paid them full compensation, so that the construction work can go on .. .” “We have told them in clear terms that they should stop the road side trading “Attah said”.
He warned that failure to comply with the one week ultimatum, will necessitate removal of the structures.
