FCTA Intensifies Efforts To Secure Schools

FCT Education Secretariat says it has established a robust synergy with security agencies and community leaders where schools are located on surveillance in view of the security challenges confronting some schools in some parts of the country.

Acting Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat, Mallam Abdulrazaq Onivefu leramoh made this known while highlighting FCT Administration’s efforts aimed at safe guarding children in the school environment in Abuja.

Mallam Leramoh who described recent abductions of school children in Kagara, Zamfara and Kaduna States as a national concern and threat to educational development and survival, said no nation can attain meaningful height without educating its citizenry.

According to him, the primary focus was geared towards fortifying FCT boarding schools considering their vulnerability.

His words: “meetings have been held, stakeholders called up to brain storm,we have pressed the red alert on security of schools in the last quarter of 2020 prior to the Kagara , Zamfara and Kaduna Abductions. Schools have been brought to clusters and students properly sensitized.”

The FCT Education Boss added that apart from these measures, plans were ongoing to fortify facilities, mend fences and deploy special security operatives to some schools.

He also said that series of meetings had been held with school principals on the need to tighten security.

The FCT Acting Education Secretary, also used the medium to appeal to all residents to complement government’s efforts by being vigilant and alerting appropriate authorities when necessary.
