The FCT Administration has inaugurated a 13 man Committee on the distribution of grains and Committee on the sales of fertilisers and other agrochemical inputs
Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, represented by the Senior Special Assistant on Administration and Strategy, Prof. Muhammad Usman, explained that the initiative was geared towards enhancing food security in the territory.
Dr Aliyu who tasked committee members to do due diligence in achieving the desired goals, highlighted the committees terms of reference to include: “to determine available stock and work out modalities for the sale, and to arrange for the kick -off and subsequent sale of fertilisers, pesticides and agrochemicals”.
While explaining that the activities was in fulfillment of the Administration’s desire to provide dividends of democracy, Dr Aliyu, stressed the need for the release of the grains and its distribution to be free, fair and timely.
According to her, the FCT Administration often buys off excess harvest from farmers to give them value for their labour, and releases same into the market to control prices when there is hike in the prices of such products for the benefit of residents.
Speaking on behalf of the committees, both chairmen, Mr. Abdul Agbade, who chairs committee on grains distribution, and Mr. Abubakar Ibrahim, who chairs committee on fertilisers and other agro-chemicals unanimously pledged to deliver on their mandates in accordance with the terms of reference.
