FCTA Flags Off Disbursement Of Grants For 5000 Rural Women

Federal Capital Territory Administration has flagged off grants for five thousand rural women in line with the Federal Government’s agenda to alleviate poverty amongst rural women in the country.  

Performing the symbolic presentation of the grant in Abuja the FCT Minister of State, Ramatu Tijjani lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his decision to initiate the National Social Investment Programme aimed at fostering social inclusion and give succour to the poor and vulnerable households across the country.

Dr Aliyu said the disbursement was preparatory ahead of the proposed grant for rural women empowerment project, that would pay a one-off grant of N20,000 each to 5000 beneficiaries in the territory, in line with the plans already put in place by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development .  

The Minister commended the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development for the zeal and promised the FCT Administration’s readiness to support programmes aimed at improving living standard of the citizenry.

Earlier in her remarks, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, said the grant was expected to increase income and productive assets of target beneficiaries.  

Hajiya Farouq who hinted that the NSIP was one of the largest social programmes in Africa with over $1billion earmarked to touch lives positively, said over 12 million households have benefitted from NSIP interventions in the last 5 years.  

She however urged beneficiaries to make good use of the grants.
