The FCT Transport Secretariat has expressed worry over the vandalisation of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit infrastructure situated in Jiwa community of Abuja.
The Acting Secretary, Transport Secretariat,Mrs Alice Odey- Achu laid the complain when she led top management team to the palace of the Sarkin Jiwa, Alhaji Idris Musa, over the ugly situation.
Mrs Odey Achu who explained that Government ventured into such a project for the benefit of Nigerians , stressed the need for all residents to see themselves as partners in progress by protecting and reporting anyone caught vandalising public facilities.
The Acting Secretary who further revealed that the project was executed with foreign loans yet to be paid back, said most of the rail tracks, metal, couches and barricaded walls around the rail facility had been broken through and vandalized by hoodlums.
“Train is safe but when these small small things are vandalized, we cannot tell what the consequences may be” she cried out.
According to her, out of the 12 rail stations in Abuja, Jiwa community housed eight stations.
Responding, the Sarkin Jiwa, Alhaji Idris Musa who advised the delegation to engage men in the community as security guards, called for the speedy implementation of the reports earlier sent to the
FCT Administration over the same matter.
“It is our duty to ensure that the people and infrastructure are protected….let Government be serious, Abuja is a combination of the good, bad and ugly… Employ those in the community as security guards to protect the infrastructure and let Government implement the advise we gave them” he said.
He also charged all District and Village Heads to watch over the infrastructure in their domains or be held responsible.
Alhaji Musa who equally revealed that the community dump site has become a safe haven for miscreants, enjoined the FCTA delegation, to as a matter of urgency relay their sincere suggestions to the FCT Minister for immediate action.
