The FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat HHSS, says investigation into the video trending in social media that Maitama District Hospital rejected one accident victim, by name, Mr George Imohimi ,was ongoing.
Acting Secretary, HHSS, Dr Mohammed Kawu stated this when he led a delegation to visit the accident victim in Maitama Hospital Abuja.
The auto crash incident which landed Mr Imohimi on the hospital bed, was said to have happened on Monday, being public holiday for workers day.
He explained that the investigation was aimed at ascertaining what truly transpired towards nipping such in the bud.
Dr Kawu said George Imohimi, a resident of Mpape who hails from Edo state was currently on admission receiving treatment at the Facility.
He however assured that the Administration would continue to ensure that all patients were treated promptly and with respect, even as he pointed out that any staff found wanting over the trending video would be made to face disciplinary actions .
According to Dr Kawu, the guiding principles for health workers stipulates that accident victims should be treated promptly before demanding for police report.
” FCTA is very concerned…Investigation is ongoing, we have seen the video and we are investigating further.
The policy is that you take in accident victims and treat them before you look for police.”
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Imuentinyan Igbinovia, explained that the victim was actually taken to the Emergency Unit contrary to the message the video was trying to portray.
Dr Igbinovia, however admitted that the lady that brought Mr Imohimi had earlier expressed displeasure over the delay in admitting the victim.
” It was on Monday around 8am ,some accident victims were rushed in and staff were seeing them and I also joined them. But about 30 minutes later another accident victim was rushed in and the staff also went to attend to the second set of victims. Unfortunately there was altercation between those that rushed the victims and the accident emergency staff, I was able to calm down the situation and also spoke to the lady who brought in the accident victim.
Immediately after that a stretcher was brought and the victim was taken into the emergency unit.” He explained.
