Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, (FCT IRS)has appointed the services of consultants to audit back duty taxes of MDAs, Enterprises and Corporate Organizations from 2015 to 2020 .
Executive Chairman, FCT IRS, Mr Abdulahi Attah stated this while speaking on some of the innovations the agency had put in place to improve the tax administration system in the territory.
Mr Attah who pointed out that the law required taxable persons and Organisations to file annual returns, on or before the end of March, explained that the consultants were employed with the approval of the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP.
He noted that the services of the Consultants became necessary because Abuja has many MDAs and Companies.
His words: ” Abuja being the Headquarters of Nigeria, we have 930 MDAs and so many companies in Abuja. So, there is no way we would have enough staff to do that. So we hired people to help us do this audit” Attah explained.
He therefore appealed to employers of labour to file their 2020 tax return and cooperate with the Consultants.
“we have written to a lot of them…some ask for extension till April. We are willing to give them that extension”
Mr Attah also explained that with the approval gotten to automate most of the Agency’s services, FCT IRS would be 80% automated by the end of 2021 for transparency and accountability.
The FCT IRS Boss used the medium to encourage tax payers to leverage on the newly established FCT IRS Call Center to make their enquiries when necessary by dialing – 070 0220 0002.
