Ahead of the 2022 FCT Area Council Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the Federal Capital Territory has advised residents to take advantage of the ongoing online voter registration in obtaining their voters’ card.
The Spokesperson for INEC in the FCT, Mrs Ndidi Okafor gave the advice while interacting with newsmen in Abuja.
Mrs Okafor said although the online registration was meant for those who just attained the age of 18 and other residents yet to register.
According to her, the registration that will last for one year is to enable residents exercise their franchise during elections.
She explained that the Commission was also planning for those who are not internet compliant as the registration would be in phases.
The FCT INEC Spokesperson however advised residents against visiting INEC Offices in Area Councils for now as data capturing and physical verification would commence next month.
She reiterated the determination of the Commission towards programnes that would strengthen the nation’s democratic system.
While advising residents of the FCT to visit the INEC website for the registration, Mrs Ndidi Okafor cautioned them against acts detrimental to the exercise.
She therefore solicited the support of media organizations, traditional and community leaders as well as stakeholders in ensuring the success of the exercise.
