The Federal Capital Territory Health and Human Services Secretariat has inaugurated a fifteen Man Committee for the Disbursement and Monitoring of Emergency Medical Treatment related issues.
During the inauguration, Acting Secretary, FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat , Dr Mohammed Kawu, pointed out that the formation of the EMT Committee became necessary towards ensuring proper coordination of the Emergency Medical Treatment, especially as it affects the poor and vulnerable persons in the territory.
Dr Kawu who described the inauguration of the EMT Committee as a right step in the right direction, expressed optimism that the move would fast track the attainment of the 2030 SDGs.
According to him, this would serve as one of the gateways to access the basic health care provision fund towards achieving universal health coverage for all.
Dr Kawu urged the committee Members to put in their best to achieve the desired goal to fully optimize the operationalization of EMT in the nation’s Capital.
In his remarks,the Chairman of the Committee, Dr Ahmadu Abubakar, who is also the Director, Medical and Diagnostic Department, FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat pledged the Committee’s readiness to effectively deliver on their mandate.
Dr. Abubakar was of the opinion that if the target of universal health coverage must be attained, issues of inadequate funding and shortage of manpower hindering robust health care delivery must be tackled headlong.
