FCT Fire Service Saves Property Worth Over ₦2b in 7 Months.

FCT Fire Service says it has saved over two billion naira worth of property in the Territory from fire outbreaks in seven months.

The Director FCT Fire Service, Julius Opetunsin who made this known during the inauguration of a new fire service station in Zuba, said the station would enhance quick response to fire outbreak incidences in the area.

The Director while explaining that the FCT Minister had earmarked money for the procurement of fire fighting equipment, called on FCT residents and stakeholders to work with men of the fire service in addressing issues that lead to fire outbreaks.

Mr Opetunsin hinted that the Service now have 15 Fire Stations within the FCT, with over 325 fire incidences recorded From January to date.

His words” When you go to salvage people and property, and people now vandalize those vehicles, they are not encouraging the FCT Minister’s effort.
“It is not only fire that we fight. We also go for recues.” He said.

Opetunsin further enjoined residents to call the emergency lines of 122 or 121 immediately during disasters for quick response within two to three minutes.

On his part, the Director legal Services, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Isah Abdullahi corroborated that the job of a Fire Service Officer cannot be overemphasized,he therefore stressed the need to support the officers.
