The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS has expressed the determination in ensuring that the its post 2020 vision reflects the Nigerian interest and Regional aspirations.
The head of ECOWAS Nation Unit , Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Joseph Udo stated this during the opening ceremony of a two day consultative workshop of the ECOWAS post 2020 Vision held in Kano .
He said ECOWAS has achieved a great mile Stone in West African countries, especially continued efforts in entrenching good governance and Democracy.
Mr Joseph Udo who was represented by Tajuddeen Epo said the region had facilitated peaceful and Democracy change of governments in The Gambia,Liberia, Sierra-Leon ,Nigeria,Mali Togo and Senegal.
“Ecowas has also succeeded in eliminating over ninety five percent of trade barriers along borders of member states,which has improved intra-regional economic trade,as well as seamless boarder Formalities”.
In a remark Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Cabinet Office, Alhaji Musa Yahaya Bichi said the workshop would play a vital role in fine-tuning modalities of moving West African Nations forward.
He said his administration had initiated a lot of developmetal policies and infrastructure geared towards improving the well being of the general populace.
Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje explained that his administration had introduced free and compulsory education at the primary and secondary school levels, enhanced security, provision of infrastructural facilities for improvement of Health care service delivery among others.
He charged participants at the workshop to make adequate utilization of the apportunity in deliberating on issues that would address challenges facing the region.
The workshop attracted participants from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Civil Society Organisation and other stakeholders.
