The Kano State Government says it will begin conducting drugs test on employees of Local Government Councils.
The Commissioner for Local Governments, Alhaji Murtala sule Garo stated this during the opening ceremony of a two day workshop organized by the Kano State Government in collaboration with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency in Kano command To create awareness on drugs and substance abuse at the Local Government level .
Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo said the workshop became necessary to curtail the menace.
He noted that as the Local Government election in Kano was approaching all contestants of Councillorship and Chairmanship must undergo drugs test at NDLEA ,aimed at ensuring that all public office holders are drug abuse free.
Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo charged the participants at the workshop to make maximum utilization of the workshop and the experience they would receive during the training by passing the message in their respective localities.
In a remark, the NDLEA Commander in Kano, Dr Ibrahim Abdul said the sensitization was very timely to check the menace of drug abuse.
He aplauded the foresight of Kano State Government in collaborating with his agency in the aspect of massive sensitization on the effects of drug abuse,saying the joint efforts had yielded positive results.
Ibrahim Abdul noted that at the end of the training the participants would be able to detect symptoms and causes of drug abuse, aimed at bringing an end to the disturbing trend.
The workshop was attended by senior officers of the fourty four Local Government areas of Kano State .
