The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Wase has called for an effective Local Government system as part of measures to address the numerous challenges facing the country.
He made the call while speaking at the Leadership Capacity Building Conference organized by the Minority leader, Ndudi Elumelu for elected Local Government officials from Delta State.
Wase who expressed concern over the present local government system, urged individuals, civil society groups and other stakeholders to push for local government autonomy.
Earlier, the Minority Leader of the House Ndudi Elumelu, said the programme was put together to equip elected Officials on how to serve their people better.
The minority leader who described the conference as a platform for capacity building urged the elected Officials as critical stakeholders to be responsible, accountable and selfless in discharging their constitutional duties.
