The National Assembly has been urged to expedite action on the constitution review to foster national cohesion.

The Chairman Media Committee of the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, Mr. Chukwudi Ezeobika made the call while featuring on “Politics Today” a Kapital FM Current Affairs Programme in Abuja.

Speaking on the topic “Ethnicity, Rancor and its effects on the development of Political Parties” Mr. Ezeobika explained that reviewing the constitution would proffer lasting solutions to the challenges confronting the country and enhance nation building.

He said there were numerous problems confronting the nation but were not insurmountable as with the right leadership in place, Nigeria could still be redeemed.

“Our ethnic nationalities ought to be part of our strength as a Nation but Ineptitude on the part of our Leaders had made a mess of our ethnicity and peaceful coexistence” he added.

Mr. Ezeobika stressed that with the rising insecurity situation across the nation , the National Assembly has both the moral and legal duty to save Nigeria from sinking by giving to Nigerians, the long awaited “People’s Constitution”.

“This could be actualized by considering various reports of Sovereign National Conferences conducted in the past by past administrations” he stressed.

Also contributing on the programme a Public Affairs Analyst, Mr. Jide Orintunsin who called on Nigerians especially political leaders to always promote peace and unity added that it will go a long way in fast tracking national development.

Mr. Orintunsin emphasized the need for politicians irrespective of political or religious affiliation to always embrace dialogue, and shun Ethnicity and Rancor.

The guests therefore advised political parties to always respect and obey the law of the land by avoiding acts that could over heat the polity.
