The Federal Government has released the sum of 10 billion naira to support domestic vaccine production.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, who Stated this at the Presidential Task Force (PTF),briefing, in Abuja, said the Federal Government was working to develop the country’s vaccines.
The Minister said the Government was exploring the option of local production of the vaccines in the Country and held discussions with some producers.
He, however noted that while the nation sought to get its own vaccines, other options were being explored for licensed production in collaboration with recognized institutions.
Dr Ehanire advised Nigerians to disregard claims by some persons in Nigeria, to have COVID-19 vaccines for sale.
According to him: “There are procedures for vaccine acquisition and use which includes appropriate regulation and certification by NAFDAC.
He stressed that there was no vaccine yet approved for use, adding that the NPHCDA was the only authorized vaccine administrator in Nigeria.
The Minister also noted that while the prospect of a vaccine arriving soon was cheering, the importance of non-pharmaceutical measures remained critical to preventing infections.
