COVID-19 : FCTA Receives Donation Of Molecular Testing Facility

In a bid to continue to wage war against COVID 19 pandemic in the territory, stakeholders under the aegis of FCT Ministerial Expert Advisory Committee on COVID-19 has donated a molecular diagnostic laboratory to the FCT Administration.

FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello during the inauguration and handing over ceremony of the facility in Kubwa General Hospital, described the the intervention of the stakeholders as a giant stride in the healthcare sector.

According to Malam Bello, the molecular diagnostic laboratory has the capacity to process about 400 blood samples per day.

The Minister thanked the FCTA Advisory Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar for their enormous contributions in the fight against COVID 19.

The minister who promised to ensure that the laboratory was well utilized, urged residents to get vaccinated against COVID 19.

“We intend to put this laboratory to good and effective use even long after this war against covid19 is won and forgotten, which we pray will not be very long from now…We must however, not be complacent despite the low positives, we are currently witnessing…”

Similarly, the Minister of State For Health, Adeleke Olorunnimbe Mamora, described COVID-19 as a blessing in disguise, adding that the interventions to contain the Virus provided opportunity to improve the healthcare sector

Earlier, Chairman of the Advisory Committee, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, was of the opinion that the laboratory would reduce medical travels and serve as a move to establish one laboratory each across the Area Councils of the FCT within the next five years.
