The Federal Government has reiterated it’s commitment in providing emergency assistance to vulnerable people to cushion effects of the COVID 19 pandemic accross the nation.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk stated this while receiving Donations of food items from the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS) Commission aimed at assisting the most vulnerable Households in Kano.
Hajiya Sadiya Umar faruk maintained that the Ministry and its Agencies were fully involved in the distribution of paliatives to the IDPs, People Living with Disabilities and trafficked persons.
“The Ministry has distributed over seventy thousand metric tonnes of Grains handed over to the Ministry by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development which includes rice, maize, millet and sorghum.”
Speaking while handing over three thousand nine hundred and ninety nine metric tonnes of grains to Nigeria, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Sangare Sekou Said, the Commission was extending the gesture to ease the hardship faced by the people as a result of the pandemic.
He said the success recorded in the fight against Covid 19 in Nigeria was commendable.
The ECOWAS Commissioner maintained that some Development Partners contributed immensely in facilitating the provision of the Palliatives.
In their separate speeches the State Ministers of Agriculture and Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Mustapha Baba Shehuri and Ambassador Zubairu Gada commended the foresight of the Commission in providing humanitarian support to Nigeria.
They assured judicious utilization of the food items, adding that the gesture would go a long way in bringing unity among the ECOWAS Nations.
