COPON Advocates Establishment Of State Police

The Conference of Presiding Officers of Nigerian Legislature COPON, has called for the Devolution of Power to give room for the establishment of State and Community Policing.

This is contained in a communique issued at the end of COPON’s 5TH General Meeting signed by the Chairman of the communique drafting committee Olakunle Oluomo.

The Speakers while appreciating the security agencies in their efforts in combating insecurity in the country said the creation of State Police will help address security challenges.

The communiqué also urged the National Assembly Committee on Constitution Review to make further provisions in the 1999 Constitution detailing the implementation of State Legislatures Autonomy.

The Presiding Officers also called on the Leadership of COPON to convene regular meetings to discuss issues of National interests as well as promote good governance and accountability.
