The Coalition of Orphanages and Children’s Home In Nigeria, COCHIN, wants the FCT Administration to certify Orphanages in the Territory.

The President of COCHIN, Senator Eze Ajoku who made the call while speaking with newsmen in Abuja said the call became necessary to guard against fake and substandard Orphanages in the FCT.

According to him, some Orphanages were registered as NGOs hence the need for certification and effective monitoring.

“FCT Administration must not wait for media reports on cases of illegality in Orphanages before setting machinery for investigation, Orphanages must be supervised regularly, monitor and if they meet standards, give them certificates of operation and if they fall below standards, close them in the interest of the innocent children in the homes” Senator Ajoku stated.

The President of COCHIN therefore advised operators of Orphanages in the FCT to always accommodate only children they can cater for and avoid acts detrimental to the objectives of COCHIN.

Senator Eze Ajoku reiterated the commitment of COCHIN towards programmes aimed at ensuring the welfare and securing a better tomorrow for orphans through quality education and training.
