The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC has deployed thirty six thousand regular and special marshals for effective traffic control nationwide during the Christmas and New year Celebrations.
The FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem stated this while speaking with newsmen in Abuja.
Mr Kazeem said the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi also ordered the immediate deployment of logistics to enforce compliance on established road traffic rules, COVID-19 precautionary measured for commuters, 24 hours Observatory at Commands along high volume of traffic prone areas, Establishment of 11 Traffic Control Camps, full mobilization of 23 Help Areas, 46 Emergency Ambulance Points and Road Side Clinics.
Explaining the reasons for the Special Operation, Mr kazeem said the Commission during this period observed upsurge in traffic volume, impatience by motorists and motorists managing mechanically deficient vehicles to and fro their travel destinations.
While officers would be on twenty four hours Rescue Operation, Mr Kazeem noted that the Commission would be collaborating with the Military, Police , Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Directorate of State Services, Ambulance Service Providers, National Network on Emergency Road Services and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency.
He appealed to the motoring public particularly commercial drivers to give maximum cooperation to the personnel as over two hundred mobile Courts would be in session to prosecute traffic offenders.
The FRSC spokesman however called on transport union leaders to educate their members against intake of alcoholic beverages, hard drugs and sale of illicit substances in and around the motor parks.
