Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ASUP, Musrapha Agwai the First Polytechnic Lafia Chapter in Nasarawa State has called on the state government to dissolve the governing council of the institution with immediate effect.
Chairman of the union Comrade Sylvester Aku made the call at a news briefing after an emergency executive meeting in Lafia.
According to Comrade Sylvester Aku, the call became imperative to save the polytechnic from further denegeration following inability of the governing council to be proactive towards addressing challenges facing the school.
He alleged that the governing council was unable to implement fully recommendations of the white paper which indicted former management of the Polytechnic for alleged embezzlement of funds including Tertiary Education Trust Funds amounting to over two billion Naira.
The ASUP Chairman called on Governor Abdullahi Sule to intervene towards ensuring that most of their colleagues who were stranded in various institutions of learning in different countries abroad due to failure of the governing council to recover the misappropriated funds continue with their programmes.
