A Non Governmental Organization, The AIDS Healthcare Foundation AHF, in collaboration with experts on health have called for equal access to COVID-19 vaccines to under-developed and developed Countries.
They made the call in Abuja during a media roundtable on COVID-19 vaccine access tagged “Vaccinate Our World” VOW, organised by AHF.
In an opening remark, the Country Program Director, AHF-Nigeria, Dr. Echey ljezie, who noted that, out of the 1.3 billion COVID-19 vaccines so far administered worldwide, 83 per cent have been administered in developed countries, leaving Nigeria and other developing countries with just 0.3%.”
ljezie said the AHF initiated the VOW campaign, to urge world leaders and public health organisations to ensure equal access to COVID-19 vaccine stressing that Until everyone is vaccinated, the pandemic would linger.
The National Secretary, Alliance for COVID-19 and Beyond (ASCAB), Mr Atambi Ade said the world must see the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines as fundamental human rights
Of all people.
Also speaking, A Doctor, Mr Walter Ugwu advocated public health communication systems to encourage people take the vaccines and also make sure the vaccines are administered at the right time when available.
